Course information:
This course will provide an introduction to working with R, a powerful free statistical software and programming language. After discussing basics of R programming, we will cover modern R tools for manipulating and visualizing data from the "tidyverse" collection of packages.
Prerequisites:
1. Prior knowledge of programming (in any language) is useful, but not necessary.
2. To follow along it is necessary to install RStudio into your laptop before you come to the class. RStudio can be downloaded with no cost from the Internet.
Course outline:
- R essentials, basic programming, importing data
- reshaping, transforming and summarizing data
- working with different types of variables (strings, dates, factors)
- visualizing data with ggplot2
Participants who attend at least 75% of the sessions will obtain a Certificate of Attendance issued by CERGE-EI.
About the facilitator:
Ivan Sutoris has been a long-time user of R. He has earned master's degree in applied mathematics from Comenius University and in economics from CERGE-EI. Currently he is a PhD student at CERGE-EI and works part-time at Czech National Bank.
